About Me
Hello!
Thanks for stopping by, and for this opportunity to introduce myself.
I've been a practicing and published professional for a number of years. My career has spanned very diverse subject matter, leading me to a focus I especially enjoy; portraiture. Most recently I have gravitated to an emphasis on the broad themes of art and beauty, encompassing fashion, glamour, nude, nature, still life, and even light hearted humor.
I strive to design compelling beauty images -- striking picture concepts that please the eye yet portray a timeless appeal. My style preference is fairly naturalistic, with a preference toward creating most images almost exclusively in-camera with minimal post production intervention. Complete digital retouch, color management and image enhancement are available as requested.
I act as MUA on many of my own shoots. Occasionally even styling hair and fitting wardrobe. Fashion design and fabric draping for costume elements is a big interest of mine, and I experiment a lot with wearable clothing pieces constructed of both naturally occuring and manufactured materials.
My studio is quite unique. Its a large 1920's school building situated on a number of acres of land which provides for virtually unlimited shooting possibilities. It offers beautiful natural light from all directions at any time of the day, as well as light sealed spaces for total darkness control. It features a host of interior surfaces and textures, with lots of interesting and versatile spaces. At over a half an acre of interior space there is ample room for large three dimensional set to help add depth and dimension to the photographs. Sets range from sunlit roof tops, to natural wooden floors and brick walls bathed in soft light, to cavernous raw industrial underground. Ample space also affords housing an extensive prop and set piece collection. For these reasons many subjects enjoy shooting at the studio to take advantage of all that can be accomplished there in terms of image variety and drama.
While the vast majority of my work is paid commissions and assignments, I can usually accommodate requests for TF* depending on the concept or project. My criteria for models who wish to be photographed depends most of all on her desire and eagerness to *be* photographed, and willingness to strive toward high artistic standards; that's what I value most -- even above looks and appearances. I find that there is nearly always something meaningful that can be created among willing collaborators. Very occasionally I offer monetary payment to select models for specific work -- typically models working through agencies -- if only to defray travel expenses. There are exceptions. I always require a model release and in turn generally grant the Subject written permission to freely utilize her images for personal or professional use.
I conduct sessions frequently through out the mid-west, and periodically to points ranging around the USA and abroad. So if you have a certain style you're after, or would like to develop something new, I'd love to talk with you. I might have already have a reason to be traveling to your area .... or create one :-)
I have and extensive portfolio with a very broad stylistic and topical range; from fashion to figurative, and classical to edgy. I'd be happy to share more with you based on your particular interests. My new website is under construction and due to be live shortly. There you will find examples of every age subject, both male and female. I'll place that link here soon. Meantime, feel free to contact me directly at the studio.
Thanks for your interest. I look forward to hearing from you!
